What is a stock health score?

A stock health score is a compact way to summarize several dimensions of a stock’s current market condition in one consistent reading.

Why use a health score at all?

Investors face a familiar information problem: momentum, volatility, drawdown, regime, trend and risk can all tell different stories at the same time. A health score does not eliminate those differences; it creates a first-pass summary so you know where to look next.

Health is different from expected return

A stock can have healthy, stable conditions without being guaranteed to rise. Likewise, a stressed stock can rally sharply. Health describes the quality of current conditions, while expected return is a forecast. Good analysis keeps those ideas separate.

What should a useful stock health score include?

At minimum, the score should respond to trend quality, volatility or instability, recent resilience and how unusual the present environment is for that stock. It should also expose uncertainty rather than pretending the number is perfectly precise.

The Orange Score approach

Orange Score is Orange Terminal’s 0–100 implementation of this idea. It combines multiple condition measures into a readable score and pairs it with a plain-English state plus deeper scenario diagnostics.
